If you configure your machine to use the Network Time Protocol (NTP), then you may find that your machine has an option to use the settings picked up from the DHCP server. If your system does not pick up the settings automatically then you should set the NTP software to use:
lapserv.maths.cam.ac.uk
as the server address. e.g. on unix systems edit the file
/etc/ntp.conf or /etc/inet/ntp.conf etc to contain
the line:
server lapserv.maths.cam.ac.uk version 3

Walker's cmtips page, though please remember to enter
lapserv.maths.cam.ac.uk as the NTP server!
Note that since 2006-Dec-06 you can configure any (valid) hostname as an NTP server, but we will always arrange for our time server to reply to all requests. This is to avoid users from having to alter their NTP settings when moving their laptops between networks.
